North Road Reconstruction, Phase I
for the County of Los Alamos
The North Road Reconstruction project was initiated due to the "Cerro Grande Fire" in Los Alamos County and the extensive damage to the local watershed. The mountainous forest that suffered the fire could no longer naturally handle the runoff associated with normal seasonal rainfalls and severe damage to North Road resulted. The basic premise of this project was to rebuild North Road with enlarged drainage structures over Pueblo Canyon and Pueblo Tributary Canyon. In the process of rebuilding the washed out roadway, extensive utility relocations were required including several thousand lineal feet of trunk water main.

Rio Bravo Boulevard West Extension, Phase III
for the County of Bernalillo
The jobsite was located on Rio Bravo Boulevard, west of Coors Boulevard in Albuquerque. The scope of work included approximately four miles of new roadway construction, box culvert construction, storm sewer installation, and drainage channel. In addition to keeping the traffic flowing, some of the biggest challenges AUI faced while constructing this project were maintaining the new earthen channel during the June and July rainy season and managing the storm water run-off; trenching to depths of 24' to 30' for the sanitary sewer lines; and obtaining permits through the Environmental Protection Agency for the soil cement plant.
