Trenchless Technology

Trenchless Technolgies

Trenchless Technology, in general, is a method of construction for replacing sanitary sewer, water, stormdrains and gas pipelines without the disruptive aspects of conventional open cut excavation. AUI's trenchless technology division has over 10 years experience in the areas of Pipe Bursting and Sliplining and has completed multiple trenchless projects that required adherence to stringent specification and safety requirements

Pipe Bursting

Pipe Bursting is a process that involves pulling a bursting tool through the old pipe, thus expanding the old pipe and pushing its fragments into the surrounding soil, while simultaneously pulling in an new pipe of equal or larger diameter in place.

Sliplining

Sliplining involves sliding a liner pipe of slightly smaller diameter into an existing pipeline, grouting of the annular space, and reconnecting the service connections to the new liner.

Manhole Rehabilitation

Manhole Rehabilitation is a system consisting of the application of cementitious mixtures formulated specifically for the manhole environment. The cementitious mixtures are sprayed directly to the manhole wall and bench to provide structural integrity, corrosion protection and stop infiltration.

Vacuum Excavation

Vacuum Excavation is a trenchless process of potholing for existing utilities by making a small excavation, usually 4" to 6" diameter, without conventional digging. High pressured water is used to cut through the soil and a vacuum line extracts the soil into a storage tank. This process is a safe and reliable method for locating existing utilities.

Pipe Bursting Projects

AUI has pipe burst over 70,000 Lf of existing pipeline with pipe sizes ranging from 4" to 24". AUI utilizes two different Pipe Bursting Systems. The first is a Hydraulic System manufactured by Trenchless Replacement Systems (TRS)and the second is a Pneumatic System manufactured by Vermeer Equipment
